Biography of Michael Thomas Parker

Mike Parker passed away June 8, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Irving Bible Church, 2435 Kinwest Parkway, Irving.

Mike was born on June 21, 1959 in Ozark, AL. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ozark. An honor graduate of Carroll High School in Ozark, he served as SGA president and was awarded the Department of the Army Superior Cadet Award all three years he was enrolled in the JROTC program. He served as Battalion Commander his senior year.

While a member of the JROTC rifle team, he competed in regional and national high-power rifle matches attaining the award of "expert" marksman. He received his private pilot license at age 16. He was an Eagle Scout.

Mike was a member of the Class of 1981 at the U. S. Air Force Academy. He received his MPA degree from Golden Gate University. While at the Academy, he was listed on the Commandant's List for outstanding military performance every semester and commanded a squadron of 120 cadets his senior year.

Upon graduation, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and served as an instructor pilot and later flew F-16's. At the time of his death, he was a Captain with American Airlines.

Mike was an avid bass fisherman and was a member of the Coppell Bass Club.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Dr. Chantal Spurdon; daughter Madeleine and son Travis of Irving; parents Thomas and Carol Parker of Ozark, AL; brother Alan and his wife, Dr. Marylynn Parker, and their children Zachary, William and Mary Elizabeth of Dothan, AL; mother-in-law Genevieve Spurdon of Irving; sister-in-law Pamela Spurdon and her children Ariane and Isabelle of Paris, France.
